Background Music for Shorts that sits under the voice

AI reads how much and how fast each short talks, its cuts and the mood of its title, then picks a fitting song from a free music library. It decides where the song comes in and how loud it sits — lower while people talk, swelling between lines.

How to add background music to shorts in 3 steps

  1. 01. Open Music for five picks

The editor's Music tool looks at this short's talking, cuts, length and title and recommends five songs at a time. Tap one to preview it.

  2. 02. Add it — level and entry are set for you

The song skips its quiet intro and comes in on a bar. Its volume is set to fit this short automatically and drops while people are talking.

  3. 03. Change the song, copy the credit

Hit Change for the next five. For songs that need a credit, copy the credit line in one tap and paste it into your video description.

No dead intros — it starts where the song moves

Most songs open with a quiet intro, and a 15-second short that starts there never gets going. Shorts Zone finds the spot in the waveform where the song is already moving, starts on a bar, and lowers the music while people talk so it swells back between lines.

A different song for every short, in one switch

Turn on Background music in the Create shorts settings (⚙) and each short gets its own fitting song, sitting low under the voice. Shorts from the same video don't repeat songs.

Free music you can use in videos

The library is free music that's safe to use in videos. Songs that need a credit are marked CC BY, and the credit line copies in one tap. You can also set the volume yourself with the slider.

Why Shorts Zone

  • Never cut mid-sentence

Every short starts and ends on a sentence boundary, so nothing stops halfway through a thought.

  • A virality score for every short

A 0–100 score, a first-3-seconds check and one honest note make it easy to pick what to post.

  • Your video stays on your device

Cutting, captions and rendering all run in your browser. Only transcript text is sent to the AI.

  • Paste a YouTube link

The Shorts Zone Link helper downloads it on your own computer. Drive and Dropbox links and files work too.

  • Korean, English, Japanese, Dutch, Italian and Traditional Chinese

Transcribe and caption in all six languages. From Pro, translate captions into any of the other five.

  • Follows whoever is talking

Going from 16:9 to 9:16 keeps the speaker centered, and splits the screen for two or three people.

  • Long videos welcome

Up to 30 minutes free, 60 on Lite, and no length limit from Pro.

  • Free to start

3 videos per account for free. Lite ($4.9/month) adds watermark-free 1080p.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. The editor's Music tool and Background music in the settings both work on the Free plan. Free covers 3 videos per account, up to 30 minutes each, exported at 720p with a watermark.

Is the music safe to use?

The library is free music you can use in videos (CC BY, CC0 and similar). CC BY songs need a credit, so they're marked and come with a copy-credit button — paste the line into your video description.

How are songs picked?

It reads how much and how fast people talk, the silent gaps, the number of cuts and the words in the title and transcript to estimate mood, energy and tempo, then matches that against each song's mood, energy and tempo. Reopen the same short and you get the same picks.

Can I set the volume myself?

Yes. Move the Music volume slider and it stays at that level. Click 'Back to automatic level' to let it fit the short again.

Can I just ask the AI agent?

From Pro, you can ask the editor's AI Agent for a mood — "make it chill" — or a louder or quieter mix.
